The STAR Center’s first Art and Music summer camps were a huge success.
You Haven't Missed All the Fun - New Camps Are Beginning Next Week!
Over the course of four weeks, children participated in activities involving art and music. These activities helped the children focus on strengths, build confidence, and encourage communication, social, physical, emotional, and cognitive skills through a fun-filled and creative environment. Amanda Wiley, a STAR music therapist, commented, “The kids were extremely involved and seemed to be really into it.”

West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation proudly announced today that the Yates
Foundation Fund is donating $5,000 to The STAR Center. At a presentation
ceremony today the Yates Foundation Fund made this announcement because of its
commitment to providing resources for children and their parents in dealing
with the difficulties of autism.
Resources from this fund are designated to assist children with autism spectrum
disorder to have access to individualized solutions. Some of these
services used to help students include conventional and assistive technology
training in learning and literacy labs, art and music therapy, vision, and
alternative communication training.

Jackson, TN – June 13, 2008 – Music in Motion has granted the Butterfly Award to The STAR Center’s Music Therapy program. The Butterfly Award includes a $1,000 gift certificate for any Music in Motion products. The STAR Center will use the awarded funds to purchase much-needed equipment to provide Music Therapy services to children and adults with disabilities. Music in Motion sponsors the Butterfly Awards in memory of the 15,000 children who were imprisoned in Terezin, whose spirits were kept alive by music, art and poetry. These awards are given to exceptional music projects which help transform the lives of children or adults who are in special need.

Grant to have direct impact on children and adults with disabilities in
West Tennessee
Jackson, TN – June 9, 2008 – Microsoft has awarded a $550,000
software grant to The STAR Center to provide learning and employment
solutions to children and adults with disabilities and special needs.
The STAR Center will use the award from Microsoft to update most of the
software used for evaluations and training to assist children and adults
with disabilities to achieve their educational, employment, and
independence goals.
