The Pre-K Picasso/Moving to Music group of 3-5 year olds lived out the stories they read each week.  They acted out the stories using props and created sound effects with instruments, and participated in musical games.  They prepared a parade and created art projects, including a giant paper sculpture fish, which was a big hit according to Janie Giles Carp, a STAR art therapist.

In the Creative Connections/Movin’ and Grovin’ group of 6 to 11 year olds, the focus took an international flair, focusing on a different continent each day.  The campers learned to sing “hello” in many languages and explored other cultures through their music and art.  Some of the activities included participating in an Iroquois chant and drum circle, singing Jamaican songs while playing Latin American instruments, learning a Japanese festival song with drums, and taking part in games from Gambia and Liberia.  In addition, the campers created totem animals, collage butterflies, and paper dragons.

The camps culminated in a fun-filled rumpus, a parade to show off their costumes and artwork.  One camper said the rumpus was “totally wicked!”  and another said it was his favorite part of the camp!

A week-long Art and Music camp is scheduled for Monday, July 5^th through Thursday, July 8^th (9 am - 12 pm or 1 pm - 4 pm).  The camps will be divided into age groups of 3 to 5 year olds and 6 to 11 year olds.  There are still openings for the afternoon camp.
